Skin like the Sahara

My whole life I have had relatively pretty kind to me skin. I never battled with acne as a teen (or adult) of course I would get a pimple every once in a while but nothing abnormal.

Then I had a baby.

And it's as if my old skin decided to move out and let a new tenant in. And this new tenant...sucks.

While I was pregnant I had two reoccurring blemishes that I chalked up to pregnancy skin and didn't think twice about. I have mentioned it on here before but about six months post pregnancy the same two spots kept reoccurring. While the dermatologist was someone I only saw in my Latisse days I decided it was time to make an appointment. As ugly as that C word is, it was in the back of my mind (thanks Google).

Very fortunately both spots turned out not to be cancerous but acute eczema...akawhat?

Let me tell you there is nothing cute about that ish.

It means that I can get small dry patches on my face that can take weeks to clear up. Since I already have two small scars on my face from where they did the skin scrape. These new dry spots are making me uber self conscious. Sure, I can easily cover them with makeup but there has got to be a better solution!

So tell me what are your tried and true methods for dealing with your skin?

And please don't say sleep...otherwise there is no hope for me.

  1. I feel you girl. I have eczema too and it's a B. I have prescription cream that I have to put on the infected areas. And then those areas don't like my tanning lotion so I get all patchy. Ugh.

  2. Yikes... I never new having a baby did that. I feel like I should start lathering up more in preparation! :)

  3. Loads of water. Like 80oz/day. It's great for your milk supply too so it's a win win! And minimize your makeup. I wear a tinted BB cream, cream blush and a bit of bronzer with mascara. Less is more in my opinion.

  4. One word lady - Eucerin. The most potent, fragrance free, no nonsense moisturizer that is out there. I've been dealing with weird dry skin on my face and body for years and this stuff is no joke... I lather it on at night and sometime in the early am too! You can find it at any Target, drug store, etc. I also use pure Vitamin E oil on areas that are really bad (like around the corners of my nose) and it is fantastic! xx

  5. I used to never wear makeup - maybe like when I was going out or put a real outfit on but never to work and certainly never on the weekend. This pregnancy has caused my face to look like a 15 year old! Let me know what you finally come up with - but I heard Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream Moisturizer is really great too!

  6. Girl, loving those clean brushes! That should definitely help your skin. But, definitely try Eucerin. It is so thick and moisturizing. It can be kind of greasy, so I recommend using at night! For the day time, I love using Garnier Rescue Refresh Gel because it has a cool feeling and is light. Hope these help!

  7. Post pregnancy skin is no joke. I look awful and old. I tried the neutrogena boost moisturizer and I broke out even more. I can not find a happy combo to save my life. It's depressing for sure. If you find some answers be sure to share! That stinks about the eczema. I think I mentioned it before but have you looked at the glam glow line? I think that's my next venture.

  8. Water? I know that doesn't sound very helpful, but it helped me. Eucerin helped me too. I didn't have eczema, but I did develop PUPPP and that seemed to help with the rash I developed all over my stomach during my pregnancy.

  9. I am terrified of what will happen to my skin during/after pregnancy. A friend of ours just had her second baby, and this second pregnancy was a rough one. She had horrible acne all throughout, among other issues. It's starting to clear up now, but it was really really really bad. And it scared the crap out of me haha.

I had eczema on my hands and feet when I was little, up until high school. I remember eucerin helping back then, but that's about it. My cure-all for everything these days is coconut oil, so maybe try that too?

  10. I've never had to battle with acne either! But now I'm scared for how that might turn around when I start having kids. I do use a very refreshing face cream though, that you might love. It smells like cucumbers and it is so hydrating for your skin. It's by Fresh and it's called Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream. It is the best thing I have ever tried! I love putting it on before going to sleep <3

  11. Oh man. I know all about that dry skin struggle. My saving graces are my Clarisonic, CeraVe moisturizers and when it's REALLY bad, slathering my face with Egyptian Magic while I sleep - my husband loves that one ;)

  12. I have extremely dry skin. Extremely. From doing accutane as a teenager and then moving to the desert. I sleep with a humidifier and slather my face in this "sweet bee magic" stuff every night. It's basically the same as Egyptian magic, but I can find it locally. It's all natural and has really good stuff in it. I also only wash my face at night with soap free cream cleansers. I really like this Burt's Bees hydrating one. In the morning I just put my makeup on without washing it, which helps it not get all flaky midday.
