Hair today, Gone tomorrow

The other day I found myself muttering under my breath once again "damn dog hair". It's literally everywhere. Balled into the carpet, clinging onto my coat, hanging from my daughter's clothes- I swear sometimes I think it's everywhere but the dog.

But then one look at him and it's definitely all over him too. Another reminder that it will likely shed somewhere near me in the near future. It blows around like tumbleweeds in our house, despite our best efforts to vacuum and pluck it up with our hands. It's constant.

That ball of hair has grown with us over the past five years. From a tiny puffball to full on lion's mane its always been with us. I can recall times watching it swirl through the air when we have the music turned up and his head is hanging out the window. A smile so wide you don't mind the drool cascading down the side of the car. You never do forget the sight of that big black tongue flapping in the wind, pure joy radiating on his face.

I remember the way his hair matted when we first took him to the ocean. Salt, sand and dog hair. We would meticulously lay down a towel in the backseat in hopes to avoid having it spread further. Inevitably every single time he would manage to crawl his 70 lb. frame into my lap into the passenger seat. He was a dirty boy (not to mention smelly) but he was incredibly happy and I was happy we owned a washing machine.
I remember when I was pregnant how he would take his head and lay it on my belly. Getting to know P by sound before sight. When I lent out my maternity clothes to a friend I made sure to say "Hope you enjoy the clothes! The dog hair comes as a free accessory!"

I can't tell you how many times I have attempted to find the stray strand of hair that has worked its way between my mascara. How many times I have had to inspect a pacifier to make sure nothing was clinging to it. Sit on the floor in black yoga pants...forget about it.

One day however

it will no longer surround us

I will not get to see it dance around as I drive with all the windows down. I will not get to see it in the grips of my baby girl's hands. I will not take it to work with me everyday, the strands that were too stubborn to be corralled by the lint roller.

And oh how I will miss it so.

So for all the years you give us (please say it's a lot), we will embrace it, we will love you and we will invest in a really great vacuum.

So Shady

We are getting ready for our annual Trinity trip but this is the first year that P is coming along (well outside of the womb that is!) Oh the packing! I have been mentally making a checklist of all the things we need to bring along for this incredibly small human and it's so much! In addition to me and making sure David is all set since he is still on crutches.
Sadly I think my absolute favorite sunglasses have disappeared...it was a good run. I had them since before I got married. :( So that is top on my list of what to pack (priorities right?). I usually spend a good amount on my shades because I wind up keeping them for years. These are a few I am coveting:

Von Zipper Glasses

Ray Ban
Looking at all these makes me want to look harder to find my old pair! I bet they are around here somewhere...

Can't Live Without It: Father's Day Gift Ideas

If your husband or dad is anything like mine you would know that men are super difficult to shop for. So I have tried to round up a few last minute gift ideas that I think any dad would love.

I don't know about you but I tend to last minute shop so looks like I better get a move on it!

Loving Lately

We have been quiet around here because in addition to everything else that is happening in our household I am also battling a pretty nasty sinus infection. You know just one more thing thrown my way to see if I could handle it. Anyways I thought I would round up some Lovin' Lately's because there is a lot I have my eye on these days.

J. Crew Cropped Halter Bikini Top - I have a really hard time finding a good suit because my ladies tip the scales past D and ya know, they just don't make swimsuits for us busty gals! I saw this in my J. Crew magazine tonight and thought this looks perfect. It would fit them AND not show a lot of cleavage. *very limited sizes left
Floral Shift Dress - we have some more weddings to attend and I think this floral number would be a great dress for an evening wedding.
Pom Pom Shirt - this is one of those where it may only look cute on the model.
Embroidered Gauze Cami - this is adorable.
Also I always get asked about my Maya Brenner F necklace, here is a great less expensive (although non 14k gold) alternative!

Happy Shopping!

Grab On

I never really thought about the passing of time. It was always something in retrospect. I can fondly recall so many awesome periods in my life. College anyone? Yet this year has been on warp speed.

Watching a little human grow right before my eyes is magical. I've watched her grow from a grunting newborn, to tummy time expert to almost toddler.

It's been a year. Honestly not one of my favorites. Along with the good often comes the not so good (how else would we appreciate the good)? It's been a tough year. From struggling to return to the office (and still struggling) to David's recent injury I'm not sure I'll recall 2015 as a favorite.

I have so much on my plate these days I would be lying if at times I didn't feel completely overwhelmed. Trying to give 100% of yourself with all the hats you wear is, well, impossible.

So I'm taking this year back. It's only June we can spin this bad boy around! Sometimes you just have to recognize things like

It's okay to say no.

I realize that things that get me in a funk these days (long commute, being sick, injured husband) won't last forever. So it's important to remember in the grand scheme of things most of it doesn't even matter an hour from now, a week from now a year from now.

So while this is more for me I hope you found some words of encouragement in case you needed it.

Just remember every day you wake up is a good one. Even if some of the days all you're doing is tying a knot and hanging on.
Now excuse me I'm off to hug my dog.

Summer Reading

In the Unlikely Event : Remember Judy Blume? Well she is back and this time with a novel for adults! I was such a fan of her books growing up and I doubt this one would disappoint!

Killing Monica: My sister told me about this book. Written by Candice Bushnell (Writer of Sex in the City) and it's all about how this fictitious author created this character (Monica) but she can't live up to her in real life...so she tries to kill her off.

Grey: 50 shades from Christian's point of view. It peeks my curiosity but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the movie.

Some others I would like to read are The Goldfinch, Luckiest Girl Alive & Nobody's Cuter Than You. If it were up to my sisters they would try and force me to read the Outlander series (both of them are kukoo over it!) But I haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet...

Read any good books lately?

You Win Monday

Yesterday just sort of...sucked.

I got into an argument out of frustration with David.
P fought me on bedtime for two and a half very long hours.
I never took Finn for a walk.
My clothing is still in the dryer...from three days ago.
Dishes are unwashed in the sink.
It was also high of 104 degrees today.

heat. cranky toddler. cranky gimpy husband. cranky mama = not so happily Parkers

Luckily tomorrow is a new day - and not to worry, about half an hour before yesterday ended I discovered this shirt from Old Navy. Even though P needs more clothing like I need third eye (although that could be helpful) how can I not scoop this up for her?

You win Monday.

See and then I upload an older photo of her and I totally forgive her for those last two hours.

Weekending

We are so happy to have David back at home with us! I have to admit it's a little hard to take care of P and him (he's on crutches) but we are managing. Today we have a follow up appointment to see if there was any major nerve damage done to his leg. He has been able to move his toes ever so slightly so that is a very good sign! Fingers crossed for this afternoon.
I know it's not just me who missed him all week!
P went to her first wedding over the weekend. I was so nervous to take her because all day she was acting so unlike herself. The day before she rocked a fever all night long thanks in part to bulging gums. I was terrified she was going to be fussy at the wedding.
I kept envisioning her crying and me trying to sneak out the back and then tripping because I was in heels way too high! Luckily she was amazing! She was so good, ate like a champ and even managed to fall asleep in my Solly wrap at the end of the night. Sorry David, she may be my best date yet!

Can't Live Without It: This Guy

This boy of mine gave us quite a scare last week. He injured his leg while at a bachelor party in Lake Tahoe over the weekend.  He hurt his leg bad enough to require surgery but is slowly on the mend of what could have quickly become a scarier situation. Thank you to everyone for their well wishes on Instagram. He has been with his parents all week (they live closer to Tahoe so were able to get him from the hospital) so he can focus on getting better while I focus on P.

It's been a tough couple of days but hey, it's not permanent and for that we are grateful!

The saying is true "Nothing Good Happens After Midnight"

You're turn! Grab the image and link below to tell Cait, Steph and me what you can't live without this week!

Odd Mom Out...for real

Tonight has been a night. Between realizing I left my diaper bag in my driveway and then locking my keys in my car I am having a moment. Which is why I find the newest show Odd Mom Out completely relatable this evening.

Odd Mom Out is Bravo's new original 10-episode scripted half-hour comedy set to premiere on June 8, 2015. The series stars acclaimed author and fashionista Jill Kargman playing a version of herself as she navigates the treacherous and elite ecosystem of New York's Upper East Side, and the uber-wealthy mommy clique inhabiting this fantastically outrageous domain.
A New Yorker through and through, Jill Weber (Kargman) embraces her quirky and somewhat unconventional life with her loving husband, Andy Weber (Andy BuckleyThe Office), three great kids, and a best friend who shares the same love for donuts and snarky retorts, Vanessa Wrigley (KK GlickCollege Humor). However, the posh and decadent world of Andy's classically blue-blooded family slowly takes over as Jill valiantly tries to resist all the delicious temptations and perks their wealth can afford. From accepting her in-laws' aristocratic, and perhaps cloudy, legacy to interviewing for a family burial plot at the most prestigious cemetery, Jill constantly battles staying true to herself while weighing the benefits of fitting in. Jill's frenemies and in-laws only fuel the pressure for her to conform, including the status-obsessed Weber family matriarch, Candace (Joanna CassidySix Feet Under), brother-in-law Lex (Sean KleierMadam Secretary) and his wife, Brooke (Abby ElliottSaturday Night Live), who reigns over a group of quintessential Upper East Side mombots with an iron credit card.

I had the opportunity to view the first two episodes courtesy of Bravo with my sisters. We found ourselves laughing out loud and exchanging stories of times we felt #oddmomout. Let me just relay a couple:
  • Having to ask another mom at the pediatricians office for a "wipe or two" because I forgot to pack them.
  • Going to my daughter's first pediatrician appointment (who we literally walk across the street to) with nothing but the baby. Yeah...needed that diaper bag.
  • Showing up at the park without sunscreen or a hat...or hand sanitizer.
You know, just the little things, that you're like shoot!!! And leaving my diaper bag in my driveway for over five hours pretty much takes the cake. Locking my keys in the car because I was so in disbelief I left it in the driveway - icing.

Tune into Odd Mom Out premiering on Bravo, Monday, June 8th!

You can catch the trailer here, promise it will leave you wanting more! Now make me feel better and tell me your #oddmomout moments!

Thank you to Bravo for having me tune in early to Odd Mom Out!
